The Sabbats : Witches Solar Observances

The Wheel of the Year:

  • It marks the changing seasons and the Earth's journey around the Sun.
  • The Wheel of the Year is a representation of the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth.

Sabbats:

  • These are the eight festivals that make up the Witches Wheel of the Year.

  • They are divided into:
    • Four Greater Sabbats: These are also known as "fire festivals" or "cross-quarter." They mark the midpoints between the solstices and equinoxes. Celebrations that represent the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. 
    • Four Lesser Sabbats: These mark the solstices and equinoxes themselves.
  • Each Sabbat celebrates a different aspect of the solar cycle and the changing seasons.
    • Samhain: (October 31st) Marks the beginning of the Pagan new year, a time to honor ancestors.
    • Yule: (Winter Solstice) Celebrates the rebirth of the Sun.
    • Imbolc: (February 1st/2nd) Celebrates the first signs of spring and purification.
    • Ostara: (Spring Equinox) Celebrates balance and new beginnings.
    • Beltane: (April 30th/May 1st) Celebrates fertility and the coming of summer.
    • Litha /Midsummer: (Summer Solstice) Celebrates the peak of summer and the Sun's power.
    • Lughnasadh (Lammas): (August 1st) Celebrates the first harvest.
    • Mabon: (Autumn Equinox) Celebrates the second harvest, balance and giving thanks.
