The Luminous Threshold of the Faery Realm

Witchcraft Essentials · Apothecary Botanicals · Ritual Herbs

Sambucus nigra

The Elder tree is one of the most mythically charged plants in all of European tradition. In Norse lore, the Elder Mother — Hyldemor — was said to dwell within the tree itself, and no part of the elder could be taken without first asking her permission. In Celtic tradition, elder stood at the boundary between the mortal world and the realm of Faery. In English folk magic, it was planted near the home to keep evil spirits at bay and was never burned lest the witch within be angered. To work with Elder Flower is to enter into relationship with one of the oldest, most sovereign plant spirits in the Western world. The flowers themselves carry the elder’s most luminous, high-vibrational energy — soft, sweet, and ethereal where the bark and berries are more austere. Elder Flower is the face the elder turns toward love, comfort, and the Faery realm. Our Elder Flowers are wildcrafted and offered whole, preserving the full integrity of the bloom and its energetic signature.
