The Double Action candle is traditionally worked on a Saturday (ruled by Saturn, the planet of reversal, banishing, and the dissolution of what does not belong) during a waning or dark moon for maximum reversal power. However, when the situation is urgent, the candle is worked immediately — the moon phase is secondary to the need.

Prepare Your Space: Cleanse your working space thoroughly before beginning — burn rosemary or frankincense as incense, sweep with a broom from the center outward, or perform whatever space-clearing practice is part of your tradition. You are about to do serious work. The space should be serious.
Dress the Candle: While many practitioners choose to add oils or herbs to their work, we advise extreme caution with glass vigil candles. Dry materials can become a fire hazard. If you wish to dress the candle, apply only a single drop of oil to the top of the wax, far from the wick.
State Your Intention: Hold the candle in both hands and speak your intention clearly and without apology. Name what you are reversing. Name what you are restoring. Name what you are protecting. Do not soften the language — this working requires clarity and authority.
Lighting & Burning: Place the candle in a safe location. While these are traditionally called "7-day candles," actual burn time varies based on environmental factors like ambient temperature, drafts, and how often the candle is extinguished and relit. Most practitioners find they burn for 3 to 7 days of consistent ritual work. When you extinguish the candle, do so with a candle snuffer rather than blowing it out.
