Prepare: During a Waning Moon or on a Saturday, take a generous pinch of Mullein leaf. Place inside the included 4x6" sachet. Hold firmly and visualize a tall, sturdy staff of light rising from the earth, grounding you and pushing back shadows.

The Incantation: "By the taper’s light and Saturn's weight, I guard the lock and bar the gate. Fear shall wither, shadows flee, Strength and courage dwell in me."

Place: Keep the sachet under your mattress to prevent night terrors, or hang near your workspace to remain grounded and focused.

On Samhain — or on any Saturday (ruled by Saturn) during a waning or dark moon — prepare your ancestor altar with photographs, mementos, food offerings, and a glass of water for those you wish to honor. Light a white candle at the center of the altar as the beacon that guides the beloved dead to your table.

In place of graveyard dirt, place a generous pinch of cut mullein at the base of the candle or in a small dish at the center of the altar. Light a charcoal disc and burn additional mullein as incense, allowing its slow, steady smoke to fill the space. As the smoke rises, speak the names of those you are calling in — clearly, warmly, with the full weight of your love and your remembrance.

Sit quietly in the mullein smoke and allow whatever comes — images, feelings, memories, words, the particular quality of a presence you recognize — to arise without forcing or directing it. When the work feels complete, thank those who came, extinguish the candle, and place the remaining mullein in your included organza sachet on the ancestor altar as a standing invitation and a symbol of the open door between your world and theirs.
