A Yule Incense Blend For Your Winter Solstice Ritual
Return of the Sun Yule Incense Blend
Capture the Scent of the Solstice Yule is the celebration of the returning light. As we welcome the Sun back from its longest slumber, we burn incense to clear the stagnant energy and invite warmth into our homes.
Blending your own incense is a powerful act of Herbal Witchcraft. It allows you to grind your intentions directly into the ingredients. Using a heavy stone Mortar and Pestle is essential here, as it allows you to crush hard resins and blend oils into dried herbs effectively.
The Recipe: "Midwinter Warmth"
-
2 Parts Frankincense Resin (For solar energy and purification)
-
1 Part Dried Rosemary (An evergreen representing protection and the endurance of life through winter)
-
1 Part Dried Orange Peel (To welcome the Sun)
-
½ Part Cinnamon or Cloves (To add the element of Fire)
Ritual Instructions:
-
Ground the Resin: Begin by placing your Frankincense tears into your White Marble Mortar. Use the pestle to crush them into a coarse powder. The unpolished interior of the marble provides the perfect friction to break down the hard resin.
-
Add the Evergreen: Add your dried Rosemary. Grind it into the resin. As you work the pestle in a deosil (or clockwise) motion, visualize the sun rising above the horizon, bringing light back to the world. The rosemary releases a pungent, pine-like scent that clears the mind.
-
Spice it Up: Add the Orange Peel and Cinnamon. Continue grinding until the mixture is uniform.
-
Empower: Hold your hands over the mortar to charge the blend with your Yule intentions—peace, prosperity, and warmth.
-
Burn: Sprinkle a pinch over a charcoal disc in a heat-safe cauldron or censer.
